The year 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Josiah Wedgwood’s company founding in 1759. The Wedgwood collecting community and the Wedgwood company have collaborated with the DAR Museum in staging this major exhibition and celebration. A broad range of nearly 200 select items illustrating the company's unique history and manufacturing are showcased. All eras from 1759 to 2009, the wide variety of clay bodies and designs, and the many categories of items produced are represented, with the objects being drawn from North American private, museum, and celebrity collections. Visitors will get to view a piece from the collections of Whoopi Goldberg and Martha Stewart; a Tiger Woods Trophy; dinnerware examples from the palace of Russia’s Catherine the Great and Theodore Roosevelt’s White House; early Josiah Wedgwood creations and 20th century artist masterpieces; useful wares; and monumental decorative objects.

To celebrate the occasion, Lord Wedgwood hosted a private opening ceremony for lenders, benefactors, sponsors, dignitaries and VIPs on October 2nd at which time a “Gift Between Nations” - an exclusive American and British themed Wedgwood masterpiece - was presented to the People of the United States of America and can viewed at the DAR. In addition, a full-color catalogue, featuring all the objects in the exhibit and more, is available, as is a specially created commemorative jasper medallion (see below to order these). There are also special Wedgwood gift ware, commemorative objects, and related books for sale at the DAR Museum gift shop. For hours call 202.628.1776 or visit www.DAR.org.
